Although this Ted Talk by Susan Colantuono, CEO of Leading Women, one of the world’s premier consulting firms, primarily looks at why women struggle to make the jump from middle management to the C Suite, her insights deliver a powerful message for all aspiring leaders and what it takes to become one. Susan opens with the damning statistic that of the 50% of leaders in middle management that are female, less than half of this group get promoted to senior levels.
It has been well documented over recent months, that most companies are struggling to unearth the next great leaders, yet there are heaps of inspiring and inspirational leaders in middle management. So why do these leaders, (mainly female) struggle to make the jump to senior executives?
Susan explains the three components that make great leadership which are:
- Use the greatness in yourself
- Engage the greatness in others
- Business, strategic and financial acumen
She then goes onto to highlight the one area where most women struggle. I’ll leave you to guess which one – or watch the Ted Talk to find out.
This talk is certainly well worth watching if you want to become the inspiring and successful leader that your company or your business needs you to be.
Enjoy!
