Technology is proving to be a massive game changer in retail. Woolies have just launched a trial whereby customers simply scan items and pay by tapping out at a designated pay station. No need to queue, or scan all the items at self-serve checkouts, this is scan and almost pay as you.
This is not a new process as Amazon launched Amazon Go well over a year ago, however Woolies are the first to trial this in Australia. So does this new technology the spell the end for supermarket check-out staff and will this technology spread to other retailers?
