Government stimulus packages yet to be felt by retailers

Retailers are really feeling the pinch as this year has been far from outstanding for retail growth, with sales at bricks and mortar stores rising a disappointing 2.0%. Even online sales, that have been outstripping physical store sales, have pulled back. Despite the government throwing a tax refund at consumers and the lowest interest rates we’ve seen for years; these stimuluses haven’t translated to sales for retailers. With the latest retail sales results coming through at a paltry 0.4% growth, this will put even more pressure on retailers already struggling with high rents, a discount mentality and reduced traffic counts. So, what can retailers do to improve growth and ensure they stay in business?
