A way to save time at the checkout

Recent technology trialled in NZ has found a way to reward customers who shop big at supermarkets.

Normally these shoppers are penalised as they have to queue and go through a checkout manned by an operator, while shoppers with smaller purchases can go through self-checkout or express lanes.

By using supermarket supplied hand-held scanners, shoppers scan as they go. The scanned items are stored and automatically brought up at the till therefore eliminating the need to scan every item. This savvy technology has proven to save up to 30 minutes for big shoppers – and that’s a worthy investment all round. Roger Simpson – CEO of The Retail Solution spoke to Mitchell Dye from Pulse 94.7 about the technology.
